Secured Planning Consent
Power Initiatives has secured planning consent on a 35MW battery storage plant in Rotherham. This approval follows the 25MW battery storage plant consent awarded by Torbay Council in early September. Adding to recent awards in Preston and Bridgend, respectively.
Eight weeks from validation
Rotherham Council granted the planning application in late September, just eight weeks from validation. This turnaround from application to award demonstrates that projects can be realised if all parties are on the same page.
Diligent groundwork to exceed the criteria set by the awarding authority removes potential blockers at every stage. Facilitating a smooth and quick planning process with a positive outcome for all invested parties.
The expertise and track record of the team at Power Initiatives is central to these latest awards.
Consented energy assets
The project brings the company’s portfolio of consented energy assets to 180MW in 2022. With a further 150MW battery storage projects currently in the planning stage, targeting a consent this year.
Ideally placed
Amid growing calls for implementing measures to bolster both transmission and distribution networks throughout the UK, our battery storage projects are ideally placed to react to the easing of capacity backlogs in short to medium term.
Gareth Woodberry, Managing Director of Power Initiatives, commented on the latest planning success:
“Our Rotherham project represents another win for Power Initiatives and recognises the team’s efforts to source viable sites for developing battery storage plant.
The project is integral to our growth ambitions and will contribute to our growing portfolio of BESS assets supporting local and national efforts to achieve net zero.”
