POWER INITIATIVES
‘SHOVEL READY’
Find Out More About Our Process
To build a new energy asset, it is essential that the relevant rights, permissions and permits are in place in order to do so.
To achieve ‘Shovel Ready’ status, each plant must have:
- Relevant planning consent to construct.
- An electricity export agreement with the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to import / export electricity generated on the local electricity (grid) network.
- A gas supply contract to fuel the generators within the plant (for gas-powered assets).
- A land agreement - usually through a long-term lease or freehold acquisition.
- Environment Agency environmental permit.
Once these steps have been taken and an asset has achieved ‘Shovel Ready’ status, it can be carried forward into construction and ultimately on to operation.
Power Initiatives are experts in delivering energy assets through to ‘Shovel Ready’ status, having delivered more than 1 Gigawatt (GW) of such assets combined since 2014.
